ABOUT THE GROUP:
Tharad, in Gujarat is famous for its Soof embroidery either in Mushroo silk or cotton embellished with mirrors and beads. Soof, a painstaking embroidery counted on the warp and weft of the cloth in a surface satin stitch. Motifs, based on the triangle, called a "soof", are never drawn. Each artisan imagines her design, and then counts it outworking from the back in reverse.

A group of 150 women works in their home and it provides the women an additional source of income. They work under the supervision of a master craftsman, Dayaben B. Dohat, who is a national award winner for her craft. She along with CFM provides designs inputs which the artisans convert into final products.
